Trevor Horn & Thomas Dolby discuss music tech

Aside from the slightly cheesy presentation, the unforgivable mispronunciations of Moog & Ableton, and crediting Avid, not Digidesign, with the creation of Pro Tools, this is an interesting podcast from NokiaConnects featuring Trevor Horn & Thomas Dolby. The Fairlight gets a couple of mentions too ;) Worth 23 minutes of anybody’s time. More of a layman’s piece than something that speaks to the cognoscenti. Enjoy! :)

Some comments are quite depressing. Especially the one Tervor Horn made, even though he’s my biggest hero, but he’s so right. Having said that, Rembrandt also died poor and had to deal in other people’s paintings to make a living. We tend to think times are different, but they’re not.

Even though I love technology and grew up with the Fairlight and MIDI, I think technology is a 100% to blame for the state music’s in today. We deny it because we have become dependent on it.
