New Prophet 5 ReFill “The Prophet” from Bitley™

Hot on the heels of the awesome Fairlight ReFill for Reason comes “The Prophet“…

The Prophet

In Patrick’s own words….

We have been sampling a Rev 3.2 P5 which has been loaded with the 40 original patches. Those are included in this ReFill. Also included: A truckload of other patches, such as more NNXT patches, Rex files and Combinator patches.

Also included for all customers of this refill: The DaBeat refill!

So, for $39 you get the Prophet ReFill plus the $15 Da Beat ReFill thrown in for free :)

Introducing DaBeat – the essential ReFill for all of you who uses the ReDrum. DaBeat contains a lot of pre-produced kits but the main thing is its collection of samples. You get your drum samples perfectly normalized and edited. All of the drum sounds from the Fairlight CMI Legacy ReFill are included as well as newly recorded samples from some classic machines.

Da Beat ReFill

Sampled material includes: Oberheim DMX, RX5, Sequential DrumTraks, Sequential TOM, TR-505, 606, 707, 808, 909, CR-68, CR-78, Fairlight CMI IIx, Casio VZ1, V-Synth and an added secret drum machine on top.

In total, the DaBeat ReFill contains about 1300 samples. There’s heavily EQed and processed variations. Tailor-made for house, techno and other electronic music styles, this is a perfect toolkit for any producer using Reason (version 4 and above). Also included: a complete FX library and a few bass samples to be easily laid out on the keyboard using the NNXT.

To start with, the ReFill includes 100 ReDrum patches. Using all 10 slots in the ReDrum, that’s 1000 sounds alone. Since the ReDrum lets you edit a lot of parameters per slot, the number of combinations is endless.

The Prophet [new reason refill introduced july 20 2010] by Bitley™

I bought this yesterday and haven’t stopped playing with it!! Both products are just full of inspirational sounds! Your Reason rack demands that you get these! :)

Jiggery Pokery & Forgotten Keys

Sounds like the name of some forgotten Prog Rock band, doesn’t it!

However, these are the names of two sample library developers that have come to my attention through my contact with Hollow Sun.

Jiggery Pokery is Matt Black, a guy with at least a couple of decades experience in the industry and who has most recently been converting some of the Hollow Sun libraries to the Reason ReFill format. Matt also sells his own work over at his Jiggery Pokery website. These libraries include a Farfisa, Vox Continental and B3 Tonewheel organs, each available separately or as one combined ReFill. There are also some lovely freebies to be had to whet your appetite, including demo versions of the above organs, plus the Laser Harp patch from an Elka Synthex, A Moog Taurus Bass and an Eminent 310U V2 as well as some FX Combinators and a wealth of Combinator skins.

Next up is Forgotten Keys, who, as their name suggests, specialise in “Quality downloadable low cost sound samples of old, interesting or hard-to-find electronic musical instruments.”

Here you will find .wav & Kontakt based sample libraries of an Elka Rhapsody 490, a Univox SR-95 / Keio Mini Pops MP-7 Drum Machine, Roland TR-77, Maestro Rhythm King MRK-1 Drum Machine and a couple of Yamaha FE-70 Electone Organ sets. Each of these packs are literally only a few quid each and well made too. They also have some freebies, including a small version of the MRK-1 and some impulse response samples of a Watkins Copicat for use in a convolution reverb such as SIR1 or Freeverb.

So, being a big fan of the little developers, I thoroughly recommend you go visit these guys, sample their wares (no pun intended) and support them as much as you can :)

New Material, Price Drops & Updates from Hollow Sun

Ok, as ever, Steve Howell has been busy as hell and he has some new goodies for you!

First of all, there has been some tweaking to the site itself, with the product pages getting a more structured layout. A single “BUY” button uncovers all the formats and their pricing which leads me on to the next update which is a revised price structure with most material dropping in price. It’s now an even better time to stock up on Hollow Sun libraries!

Here’s what Steve has to say…

Hollow Sun Nebulae

Hollow Sun Towers has had a bit of a facelift on each of the products’ pages. THIS one is a good example but they’re all pretty much the same.

More significantly, perhaps, is a price re-structuring for many of the titles with as much as a third off. They are…

- All Novachord formats (Kontakt, EXS24 and Reason Refill) are now $80. This represents a $40 saving on the award winning Hollow Sun Kontakt Novachord.

- All the $60 products are now $40 (‘Nebulae’ pad library, NewTron, CP70, Oberheim M1000, PPG, FS1R, M/01) representing a third off those titles.

- The Hollow Sun ‘Prog Pack’ is also available in Kontakt and EXS24 formats. At $100 for a bundle comprising the CP70 (and Wurli EP200, Hohner Pianet and RMI Electrapiano), NewTron, Taurus and string synths (with some steaming Hammonds thrown in for good measure), there’s a saving of $70 to be had there.

There’s also a fabulously authentic Vox Continental in the works here in Kontakt format which provides full control over drawbar settings as well as amp and cab simulation and Leslie – even a ‘Damage’ control to re-create a beaten up Conti! This will be released any day soon for a mere $20 so watch this space.

These changes mean that it’s never been more affordable – or easier – to own some of the greatest, most desirable, quirkiest and rarest electronic instruments ever made with all the samples lovingly hand-crafted to provide you with the closest experience of having ‘the real thing’ in front of you to use and abuse as you think fit.

Cheers,

Steve

Hollow Sun VP330

Hollow Sun Crumar Performer

In terms of new material, we have the Crumar Performer package, updates to the Kontakt version of Nebulae as well as a new Reason ReFill of that library (see my demo track, written with Micky Dodds) and a Roland VP330 package in Kontakt format.

As usual, the Kontakt libraries benefit from Steve’s clever use of scripting and using a uniform control method throughout all his Kontakt libraries. The Reason ReFills have been created in conjunction with Jiggery Pokery and are some of the best sounding and best value ReFills on the market.

Now, go fill yer boots! :)

Fairlight Supremacy ReFill updates to v1.3

Fairlight Supremacy 1.3

It’s been quiet on the Fairlight front of late but this emerged yesterday….

Fairlight CMI Legacy / Supremacy Update 1.3
The original, complete Fairlight CMI II sound library refill for Propellerhead’s Reason now gets a large update, for registered (and new) users only. The update contains 130 Mb of new samples as well as 55 new Combinator patches and about 25 meticously crafted NNXT patches. For users of the original Fairlight CMI Legacy ReFill this means the refill has been updated with over 200 Mb of brand new sample material (in 24 bit resolution) since its release. Fairlight CMI Supremacy 1.3 will no longer be a free download for all, but the 1.2 release still functions as a free demo refill, freely available from www.powerfx.com. The new release is only available for registered users and new customers buying the refill directly from Bitley™.

New instruments in the 1.3 release includes some brand new, unbelievable sound creations programmed in 2010 using a vintage Roland D-50 synthesizer. A poll was recently made on Sweden’s largest music forum, 99musik (.se) where users were asked to guess which synthesizer was used. No one figured out it was a D-50; the correct reply was given by a user knowing Patrick Fridh always liked it and just mentioned the D-50 without really believing it could be that synth.

Supremacy 1.3 - For Registered Users Only

Fairlight CMI Legacy still only costs $69 but now contains almost twice as much sample material and over three times as many patches as the original release, now covering the entire Fairlight series II factory preset library as well as sounds taken from live audio sources. The library also contains synthesizer sounds from the same era as the Fairlight – such as Yamaha TX816, Roland JX10, Roland D-50, many drum machines, odd digital synthesizers and more. The amazing thing about the library is that it collects all of this for Reason, giving the Reason user access to sounds never before achievable within the software’s environment. The Fairlight cost over $70,000 in the 80s and was an untouchable dream synthesizer/sampler workstation for all keyboard players. Quite amazingly all of this is now available for $69 running on a Mac or PC computer. Fairlight is a registered trademark and the library is officially approved by Peter Vogel, founder of the Fairlight CMI.

Patrick Fridh has previously programmed factory sounds for Clavia and Propellerhead Software, as well as many libraries for PowerFX.

I’m off to play with it now! ;)

Hollow Sun Novachord released for Propellerheads Reason & Record

Well, I’ve been sitting on this one for weeks, but today I can finally reveal that the Reason & Record ReFill version of the totally unique Hollow Sun Novachord library is now available for sale at the Hollow Sun website.

Refill for Reason & Record

I’ve mentioned the Novachord library a number of times before in this parish, so I won’t go into any detail in this post about it’s existence and how it came into being. However, in my last post, I mentioned I had had a sneaky peek at the Reason/Record ReFill and how nice it was. Well, things have moved on greatly since then and the release candidate that I have been trying out is even more astounding! Hollow Sun enlisted the services of Matt Black to do the Reason conversion. Actually, I say conversion…. don’t expect to see a patch by patch replication of the Kontakt library. Oh no. A new lease of life has been given here. Whilst some of the patches remain, Matt has taken time to utilise the many unique features of Reason to come up with even more sounds, some authentic, others using the Novachord samples as a basis for creating new and wonderful sounds. Excellent use has been made of the Combinator instrument.

Novachord Combinator

For those who don’t know Reason, the Combinator allows a user to build one new instrument using any or all of the existing instruments and FX tools within Reason. For example, you can layer numerous NN-XT patches, tag on a bunch of FX, run it through an arpeggiator, via some Mastering tools and bundle it all up into one easy to control instrument.

Thor

In doing this, Matt has also employed the excellent Thor polysynth to take care of numerous routing and filer combinations. This also makes the ReFill only compatible with Reason 4.0. There are also collections of the standard samples, as well as all the FX Combinators that you can use in any way you wish PLUS a whole section of sounds running through some of the superb FX that come with Propellerheads excellent audio recording application, Record.

Record FX

Combinator FX

Combinator FX

Users who have both Reason & Record (and let me tell you, the two programs seamlessly fit together and form a music making powerhouse of impeccable quality) will be able to take advantage of these. Users who just have Reason will just be given a message informing them that these particular gems are for Record users only. A nudge, if any were needed, to go buy Record!!

So, all of these things combine to form a fantastic and very inspiring set of sounds. Here’s how Hollow Sun categorise them….

The Hammond Novachord Refill for Reason & Record is structured into the following folders:
• Classic Novachord
Here you will find the classic tones of the Refill, in Combinator
format
• Esoteric Novachord
This folder contains Combinator patches with a modern
twist, including layers, splits and FX
• FX Patches
Subfolders for all the FX modules used in the Combinators:
Line 6 USB Pod Farm (see opposite) , Reverb,
Scream, Thor Modulation Matrixes and Combinator FX
• NNXT Patches
All the tones saved in *.sxt format, plus additional subtle
variants of some patches
• Novachord Amped [R+R]
Combinator patches with Line 6 amp tones for Pod
Farm. Please note that as of writing, these patches will
only load within Reason+Record.
• Samples
24-bit, 44khz samples.

I’ve been noodling with these for a while now, and they really do work well within the Reason/Record environments. The immediacy and simplicity provided by the host environment allow you to really start exploring and tweaking these sounds VERY quickly. I’ve been playing around with these in combination with the Fairlight Legacy library and getting some very satisfying results.

New Look Hollow Sun!!

I’m strangely excited by this, mainly because Steve is a great friend of mine and his website has been the source of great inspiration for me over the years, as has Steve himself. I was shown the new website design last week and thought it awesome and a marked improvement over the old design, and I think you will all agree.

Launching at the same time as this new look website is the inclusion of Patrick Fridh’s Fairlight Legacy Refill collection (including Supremacy and De Light) in the Hollow Sun shop. I acted as a bit of a middle man to try and get Patrick’s product out to more people and to ensure he got the best possible distribution deal and a fair chunk of the proceeds. His refill fits perfectly into the portfolio of Hollow Sun products which invariably focus on vintage synthesis, something for which they have become quite legendary over the years.

Take a look for yourself and check out the amazing deals in the shop.
