Sarm Studios partner with Native Instruments

An interesting press release from Sarm Studios hit my inbox this morning. It seems they’ve struck a deal to have a Native Instruments Komplete 8 Ultimate drive installed in all four of Sarm’s studios in Basing Street, London as well as the Perfect Songs writing room. Here’s the press release wording…

Sarm, the world-famous recording studios and creative hub in West London, has partnered with Native Instruments to roll out its acclaimed KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE software suite across each of its studio rigs.

KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE will be available to clients of Sarm Studios One, Two, Three and Four, as well as the Writing Room of music publishers Perfect Songs, which is also based at Sarm.

Released last September, KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE combines the full arsenal of Native Instruments’ KOMPLETE instruments and effects range: 50 individual products with over 13,000 sounds and 240Gb of sample content on a dedicated USB 2.0 hard drive.

The suite includes the latest KONTAKT 5 and GUITAR RIG 5 versions, and adds the charismatic WEST AFRICA percussion instrument, the versatile new STUDIO DRUMMER production instrument and the upcoming TRANSIENT MASTER dynamic processing effect. It also includes over 1,300 additional presets for Native Instruments’ ABSYNTH, FM8 and MASSIVE, derived from several acclaimed soundpacks previously available as individual products.

“We’re delighted to have KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE in every studio as part of the Sarm production arsenal,” comments says Aaron Horn, Co-Director of Sarm Studios. “NI is at the cutting edge of sound, from the amazing orchestral samples in KONTAKT to the bone-shattering bass sounds of REAKTOR… There’s something for every job and more.”

Short lived – in the May/June issue of Tape Op (USA) he says that Sarm is soon to be developed into condos. “We’ve had these studios for a long time, but unfortunately they are going to be gone soon. There’s no money in it. We have permission to develop it. […] It’s going to be duplexes, but there will be the studio in the basement. I have a lovely studio in the basement that Sam Toyoshima designed. I’m happy to have a place to work. My son is measuring all of the rooms before they go.”

Sad news, but a very good interview. Worth seeking out. There’s a teaser on their website, tapeop.com/articles/89/trevor-horn/

I’m waiting for my copy of Tape Op to land on my doormat!

I’d read very recently that Sarm was undergoing a revamp but not to the extent that you mention. Maybe they’ve had second thoughts and are properly getting rid. That would be a horrible shame.

I’ll ask my contact at SPZ for info! 🙂
