It’s funny how, after so many years of not really getting into big virtual instrument collections, I am sat here now, reviewing my second iteration of Arturia’s V Collection in less than a year! Ok, so I may have been late to the V Collection 4 game, but I’m back up to speed again and […]

There seems to be a growing trend amongst software instrument developers in recent years of bundling their goods up into an “ultimate” package and offering that package at a considerable discount to their customers over the combined prices of the individual, component items. This has a number of effects. Firstly, the user community tend to […]

Of all my teenage years, 1984 stands out in my mind as the most memorable. It was in this year that a great deal about me changed. It was the most formative of my formative years. In those 12 months, I made a raft of new friendships, many of which last to this day, I […]

UVI The Beast Review

I think it’s fair to say that, of all the digital, sampling behemoths of the late 70s and early 80s, the New England Digital Synclavier was probably the biggest, most expensive, most desirable of all. Why? Well, it was, arguably, far superior sonically than its competitors and had a far higher level of specification in […]

UVI WaveFrame Sound Collection Review

If I was to ask you to name a mega-sampler, or maybe even to define that type of instrument, most of you would offer up answers like “Fairlight” or “Synclavier“. Chances are, none of you would come up with the WaveFrame AudioFrame. And I wouldn’t blame you either. When it comes to the “Uber Samplers”, […]

I’m an 80’s child. I was born in 1970, and I always maintain that I was born 10 years too late. As much as I’d have enjoyed being around when The Beatles ruled the earth, it’s the subsequent two decades that do it for me and I’d have revelled in being a teenager in the […]

An interesting chat with the god that is Trevor Horn. In it, he talks about Fairlights, Synclaviers and many other interesting topics. Quicktime is required. Sadly, the interviewer is a total knob end. Rude, dull, distracting and unable to ask decent questions. Ignore him, listen to Trev :o) Part 1 Part 2 Enjoy :o)

Via the Fairlight Mailing List.A UK video clip featuring Howard Stableford interviewing Stephen Lipson at SARM West. He’s using the Synclavier and we also get to see the gorgeous Claudia Brucken of ACT, as he records Snobbery and Decay. It prompted me to dig out some Propoganda tracks, like the classic Dr Mabuse.
