Those of you with Symbian based Nokia mobile devices have been able to use the Failed Muso app for some time. This isn’t because I’m a development wiz of any kind, but simply down to the fact that Nokia provided me with a tool to fashion a small app based on the blog content. It worked reasonably well but I doubt it set the world on fire.

I’ve often been asked if I have ever considered doing something more substantial and yes, I have considered it, but I wouldn’t know where to start. I can’t code to that level, so I won’t even try. And I’m basically penniless so I can’t pay anyone to do it for me.

However, I have been made aware of a plug in for WordPress, the CMS that I use for this blog, that sees that a user is trying to view the site from a mobile and it does some wizzy reformatting to present it to the user in an app-like interface. I’m currently using the free version so it doesn’t have too many bells and whistles and doesn’t cater natively for the iPad yet, but that’s not so bad as the desktop version of the site works perfectly well on it.

I’ve also made other tweaks to render the site more mobile friendly, like cutting down the size of embedded videos and removing Flash based things that didn’t translate well (Psst… if anyone knows of a WordPress tag cloud widget that uses HTML5, I’d love to hear from you!).

I’ve tested the blog out on my iPhone 4 and Android based HTC Desire S and it looks nice and clean.
