Re-Tron by GForce for Reason Rack Extension
Blimey, what a journey! I remember being approached by Dave Spiers of GForce Software back in January of this year about helping him out with Re-Tron and here we are, Mid July, and it finally got released to the Prop Shop yesterday. Whilst it didn’t take that long to build, it’s been a lengthy process but one that I am truly honoured to have been involved with, if only in a small way.
I’m hoping to do a proper video review of Re-Tron soon, but until then, Re-Tron is a pretty faithful adaptation of GForce’s M-Tron Pro instrument. From a GUI perspective, most features have made it across, albeit in a new look panel, designed to fit the Reason rack. And of course, you can flip Re-Tron around and access CV & Gate controls and route the audio anywhere you bloody like!
As for the samples, well, it comes with the prized Streetly Tapes library, a 25 bank library taken straight from the genuine EMI Tape Banks. Whilst nowhere near as vast as the M-Tron Pro’s 3GB+ content, it’s sufficient enough to give you a good bunch of ‘Tron sounds, with all the layering and sound shaping controls that we’re used to. The Re-Tron clocks in at about 625MB and currently costs €59/$75 for a limited time.
And what’s my involvement? Well, I have patches that shipped with the instrument, one of which was selected as one of the prized “default patches”, so that was very cool. And I composed a demo piece, which I’ve posted below for your delectation.
All in all, this is a momentous occasion in a number of ways. Firstly, it’s great to see GForce in the Reason world. Secondly, this is my first proper patch contribution to appear in a Reason instrument (previously, I’d had some samples and patches appear in some Hollow Sun stuff). I am incredibly proud to have my work feature both in the instrument and as a demo for the product. That’s a very humbling piece of validation for me, on a personal level.
Watch this space for a proper video review soon, and enjoy the video and audio demo too 🙂
