Failed Muso does X Factor
Ok, so that’s not strictly true. I’d certainly not whore myself out to an exploitative piece of marketing and money making such as that vile piece of detritus. However, I have just been a panel judge on a show that aims to give exposure to, and critique of, new and independent musicians 🙂
It was a bit strange how it all came about, but last Sunday I received an email from a guy called John Hodgson. Amongst many other things, John is the clever programming dude behind GForce‘s impOSCar synth. Anyway, John was looking for a last minute stand in for a webcast by the guys at MSI: Music Scene Investigation. Every week, a panel of three esteemed individuals, made up of two regulars and one guest, listen to three new songs and then give constructive criticism on each. The neat thing is that the judges have no idea what they’re about to hear, so all comments are real, honest and immediate. Anyway, John got in touch with me via our mutual friend, Dave Spiers, and I was then put in touch with Ian Husbands who prepped me for the show.
A few hours later, I was live on air, chatting with the other guys, namely host Rich Wildman, retired engineer Tom Chianti and the aforementioned Mr Husbands, and having an absolute blast. We heard the music, I gave my opinion and was staggered at not only the quality of the music on show, but the geniality, joviality and all round positivity on display by the presenters and the live audience in the chat room.
I have to admit that I was a bit worried that I would be out of my depth, but it went so well that I can’t wait to be asked back again!
So, here’s the show on YouTube. I hope you enjoy it and please do make this a regular place to go visit on a Sunday evening, especially if you want to learn from seasoned pro’s.
