My God(win) !!

Found this on eBay UK this morning…

A Godwin String Concert 749.

These are rare as rocking horse shit. I should know, I used to own an even more rare Godwin Symphony 849…

I was given this (along with my DX-27) by a friend of mine who was about to throw them both out because they were both faulty and he had given up playing in favour of modifying his beloved car ! I took them off him with every intention of bringing them back to life. The DX-27 was diagnosed with a blown protection circuit and I’m going to pick her up this morning (yay), but the Godwin did actually make a sound, albeit the brass patches (all 4 of them). The string sound that it was most famous for was virtually non-existent. Many say that of all the String Synths of the 70’s, the Godwin was the finest.

In the end, she sat in my loft for ages, with me not having the expertise to resurrect such a thing (trust me, under the bonnet it was like an explosion in a spaghetti factory !)

I sold her on eBay for a little over £20 to a local guy who said he’d get her working again. I made him promise me that if he did, he’d let me sample her :o)

Anyway, nice to see another example, albeit in a similar state of disrepair. Hopefully this will go to a good home where someone can bring her back to life :o)
