Akai finally release a new firmware for the MPK49!

At long last, Akai have released a new firmware for their MPK49 controller. This absolute gem of a controller was only spoilt by some truly niggly little bugs, the main one being that it didn’t retain the Global settings after power down. Thankfully, v1.05 now fixes this and a couple of other minor issues:
Version: 1.05
Date: 3/12/2009
New Features / Changes:
1. Added the ability to save PAD THRESHOLD, MIDI CLOCK, TAP AVG with SAVE GLOBALS
2. Fixed issue where ports would not show correctly on Mac OS 10.5.6
3. Fixed issue where assignable switches could not send program changes above 32.
Thank you Akai, even if it did take a feckin’ age!! ;o)

Yo I just upgraded my firmware to 1.05 On my my Akai MPK49 and now my Digital performer 7.12 Software sees it but does’nt through put midi to the Soft synths at all. When I use the NI software stynths as stand alone Its ok. but through my DAW it gets midi through the midi moniter but no sound. Please let me know what it could be.
If DP is receiving MIDI signals but your soft synths aren’t, that sounds very much like a configuration issue with DP and not anything to do with the MPK. Check your Common MIDI channel within the global options on the MPK just in case.
Sadly, I’ve never used DP so can’t really help any more. Good luck.
Can you please upload the firmware for this
mac – AKAI MPK49
Would really appricate it!
thanks
The link is now in the article, at the bottom 🙂
Hi Thanks Rob!
I have one more question. I am on mac and i connect the MPK49 and turn on Vyzex and I transmit the .syx file. the MPK says recieving and the numbers cycle through. I get the message that says done press enter. But when I press enter nothing happens. I get no response from the MPK and if I turn it off and on again the screen does not light up. I have to hold down the back arrow, stop and record buttons and then the screen will light up. but I am back to the screen that says – UPGRADE , Erase OK? Press Enter.
Do you know what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks Kris.
Hi Rob
Do you have any earlier firmware?
Kind Regards
Kris
The only other version I have is 1.03…

As for the process, it’s been far too many years to recall and my MPK49 is currently in storage, so I really can’t help. Here’s a link to download all the MPK files and documentation I have…

Hi Rob
Thanks for all of your help with this!
Where did you find this new firmware?
I’ve been trying to track down an update for my MPK61 but haven’t had any luck.
I had this in my archive from back in the day and just decided to share it here after Akai removed it. I’ve checked back on the Internet Archive aka Wayback Machine and wasn’t able to find anything.
It might well be that there was no FW update for the MPK61?

Thanks from Reon of Planet Zircon (Terrestrial base Saint John, New Brunswick;) for MPK49 firmware files, instructions, and Received Wisdom / Teachings
And for hosting downloadable resources. Kudos.
Ummm… that’s great, but can anyone tell me how to update the MPK49 firmware from a PC??
Thanks!
