GarageBand for iOS

I’m a big fan of GarageBand for iOS. It’s a very simple to use, intuitive sketch pad for ideas and I have no doubt that full pieces of work could be hammered out on it. v1.2 was released last week at the same time Apple announced the “new iPad” along with “new Apple TV” and other things like iPhoto and less interesting stuff.

I think the iPad is a fantastic tool, for lots of different things, but when it comes to music making, there is a plethora of apps that will blow your socks off. My only gripe, and it IS a very personal gripe, is that GarageBand for iOS will only export to GarageBand for Mac and Logic Pro, which means I have to have a Mac, which I’d love, but sadly my bank balance refuses to stretch to. It would be brilliant if Reason could import just the audio files, at the very least.

Until it does, I’ll have to console myself by either recording each track’s output individually into Reason & then syncing them up or transcribing it all by hand, therefore reducing the app’s worthiness as a sketch pad. Now, if Reason could incorporate iCloud syncing and/or GarageBand file translation, that would be very cool indeed. That way, this little piece I put together this afternoon in about 30 minutes could be imported into Reason and fully completed much more easily…

Or… if Propellerhead released an “iReason” app, then my problems would be solved. However, I don’t think that is what THIS announcement is all about. I think that’s something far more important…
