The demise of KvR Part 2
You may recall an earlier post here, about the demise of the KvR forum (in my opinion).
Well, This is a post that kind of emphasises my opinion. If you can bare to trawl through the 11 pages (and I’m sure it’ll keep on going), you’ll find about two pages of worthwhile input, and the other nine is full of abuse, vitriol and dumbass idiocy !!
The main point of this particular thread was whether software synths are as good as their hardware counterparts, in particular, whether Native Instruments FM7…

…is a good emulation of the Yamaha DX7….

…it purports to emulate.
As ever, the point of the original topic gets lost very quickly and then turns into a two way bitch fest between one user who claims to know everything there is to know about the DX7 and that FM7 is a pile of crap in comparision, and another user who, surprisingly, claims the opposite !! LOL

Whilst you are there, check out other “great” threads like Christina Aguilera – NY Times, Is an Instrument’s name important? (you can vote on that one !) and Contest of the crappiest VSTi of all time and all category !.
I rest my case 🙁

I dont know much about the FM-7’s faithfulness to the DX-7 but after using the NI’s B4 demo for a while I can assure you its muck! Now I only have a Hammond XB-1 which lacks the balls of a real tone wheel Hammond but it sure beats the drawbars off that B4 thing. I’ve been a Jon Lord fan for years so I I’m well qualified to opinionate here 🙂
