Yamaha GX-1 In Action

Last week, Failed Muso reader Lu Shengfei dropped me an email regarding an old article I wrote on my love of the Yamaha “Über Synths”, namely the GX-1, EX-1, FX-1, GS-1 and CDSX.

That post, which you can read here, is 12 years old but I still maintain the affection for these gargantuan rarities. And thanks to Lu, I’ve now discovered this awesome trailer for a film by the Japanese Shochiku film studio, famed for its horror classics of the 50s, 60s and 70s. It features a supposedly famous Japanese Electone player whose name was not provided, but the video is bloody brilliant and you can see why the GX-1 was so revered for its sound.

I’m struggling to find more information on the performer and the film itself, because it would be very interesting to hear what other work may have been done using the GX-1.
